The options to purchase Indianwear online are increasing by the day and it really does make me jump for joy when well established designers collaborate with big online fashion destinations like Jabong. One of the most recent collaborations that had me excited is Gaurav Gupta for Jabong. Its quite pleasant to see such talented & notable designers join hands with online retailers and make their work accessible to a much larger audience.
The collection features signature Gaurav Gupta embellishment details that features his runway silhouettes which have been given a traditional twist – draped saris, anarkalis and lehengas. All the pieces of the collection exude a certain sensuality and are very versatile at the same time. There are detailed and heavily embellished pieces as well as breezy more casual ones depending on the occasion you are interested in. This collection is exclusively available at Jabong and is priced between ₹ 10,000 – ₹ 20,000/-
I chose to go with this black anarkali kurta set for a day-time engagement function of a cousin recently. Evening and nights don’t really allow for sleeveless garments in the Delhi winters so a day function seemed appropriate. The interesting part about this kurta is the draped dupatta it has attached to it’s back. No need to keep adjusting your dupatta, checking if it is sweeping the floor or slipping off your shoulder. It stays where it is meant to. I loved this bit! The hemline of the kurta is also a slight high-low. High in the front and sweeping low at the back which makes for another interesting element.
I decided to pair this anarkali with an exquisite pashmina/ cashmere shawl with some dreamlike hand embroidery to enrich the outfit and give it a hint of resplendence. The cashmere shawls are all handcrafted with materials sourced from the arid plains of changthang in the Ladakh region and handmade in Kashmir. The embroidery of this particular shawl took more than 2 years to complete. These marvelous shawls are by Rana + Ishu who personally source the raw material and overlook the creation of each shawl.
